Welcome to “Season Three” of our osprey cam! Get ready for another exciting season of osprey viewing at the Waquoit Bay Reserve, brought to you by the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge
If you’d like to show your appreciation for the nest cam, please Support the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge! As a nonprofit volunteer organization, we support a wide variety of education, research and stewardship projects within the Mashpee Refuge to ensure the long-term protection and enhancement of native wildlife and habitats.
Thank you in advance!
We are thrilled to offer this live stream of an active pair of Osprey at their nest at Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The pair are appropriately named Rachel and Carson, after the famed environmentalist.
This opportunity for a bird’s eye view of a beloved bird’s habitat is the result of a collaboration between The Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, which helped plan and locate the site for this unique “nest cam,” the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, one of the Refuge partners, and Comcast, which generously provided the equipment, installation and broadband connectivity to power this viewing experience.
One of our goals as a community-based nonprofit is to give the public opportunities to enjoy and interact with nature and wildlife. Thanks to Comcast, the live streaming of this osprey nest will broaden our reach to all of Cape Cod and beyond. We are grateful for the opportunity to use the live nest cam for observation, research and education purposes.

Pelting rain at night. Rachel is doing an amazing job shielding the chicks. Great umbrella!
Awe! Thanks for sharing, Glenn.
Calling madly for fish. Good job!
What happened to the other 2 chicks? I missed a few days and now only see 2.
the 2 littlest ones didn’t make it thru that wet, cold, windy weather we had a few days ago.
Thank you. so sad poor babies…
Oh. That makes me sad.
Carson removed them from the nest
oh so sad, poor little babies…
So it seems one chick is darker than the other. Which is Delta and which is Echo?
surprised to see the chicks left alone in the nest.
they are being left alone a lot this year, sometimes for several minutes.
I hate it LOL – we might need to call MA DCS on them for leaving their children home alone LOL
Another fish delivery at 6:59AM
Carson is a warrior this morning, breakfast served around 5;10,,fresh fish of course,,,
CARSON FISHES AS GOOD AS OUR TRIBAL FISERMEN DO. GOOD SIZE ONES THAT I WANT TO PUT IN MY OVEN OF FRYING PAN, HIS A WONDERFUL FATHER I WOULD SAY, SMILE
Brunch served at approximately 11:30 AM Sunday
Yes, a massive fish feast
Yay! Little guy got a big piece finally!
One of the chicks is sitting on it.
Can you tell them apart? Who is riding the fish 🥴?
Little guy 🙂
👍☺️
Biggest fish I’ve ever seen on this nest!
So sad only 2 chicks left. 😢
Thanx all
Great fish!
Still eating or eating again.
Plenty of fish this morning!
everyone is full.
It is normal when to catch fresh fish!
Carson brought an intact fish for breakfast at 5:18. After 2 min of ripping into the fish, you could see the tail flapping. I don’t fish. Is this normal?
A few days ago the same thing happened except Echo was climbing on the fish to get fed and went flying across the nest when it flapped!
Diane – I saw the same thing. Talk about a fresh breakfast! Even after the head was eaten, the fish still has some life and flapped a bit. I could not believe it! But what Barry said was classic. I can’t wait for Glenn to get back from vacation and post that into the 2023 season hilights!
Oh – and right after breakfast “she put them down for a nap!” 😂
One big family PLUS fish.
I haven’t seen Carlson all day .Did I miss him
Lunch is served. 12:50 PM
1:00pm Rachel feeding the chicks lunch 🙂
The younger one seems to drop more than it swallows
10:56am she is back without a fish.
10:50am Rachel left the chicks alone.
two
She left the nest a few minutes ago, hope she brings back a fish.
IM CONCERNED CARSON HAS NOT SHOWED UP WITH FISH THIS MORNING TO FEED HIS FANILY AS HE ALWAYS DOES, ITS 10:30 AM,
Can not understand why the males, in general, don’t bring more fish.
There is an ocean full of it feet away.
what else do they have to do all day? ( I know all about the effort involved)
that would greatly reduce the pecking.
I have seen the Ospreys at the Scottish nests bring tons of fish a day.
Relieved to see both chicks active this AM
Wondering if anyone knows…
Rachel does a lot of beak down nuzzling the loose chaff at the bottom of the nest same as when she preens her own feathers. Is this water proofing the nest so water wicks away? Or is she just trying to make drain passages from chick spooge? The are already jet pooping outward so not thinking that’s what’s going on? Maybe the object is to create spaces for air to let the next breath for when she’s huddled over them? Curious…
It was really cool this morning, Rachel was hungry and eating, while the 2 chicks were between her legs eating too!
Anyone know what’s in the nest? Looks like a piece of paper.
It is paper…..arrived yesterday
lol
It looks like a take out menu.
Maybe Rachel and Carson wanted take out delivered!!
Are both chicks still alive? Every time I check I only see one
My heart is broken. But nature has to take its course I guess. ❤️🩹
Thank you Diane for your update.
Only saw two chicks feeding this morning
did not see the other two in the picture?.
oh james- the other 2 didn’t make it.
the cold and nasty weather apparently was too much as they were only a couple days old
Oh no. I think it’s delta pecking at echo again. Rachel just watching. did Carson bring fish this morning? I hope echo makes it-already so sad that foxtrot and golf didn’t make it 😢
I saw that too, Dianne. Wish Rachel had intervened but she showed no interest whatsover.
